The Heavy Metal Update (previously known as The Big One) is a major content update for Indie Pogo. This patch is Part 1 of this giant 2-part patch. It introduces newcomer Bullet Kin, as well as a complete overhaul of the game, including new battle mechanics, modes, stages, and features.

This page will be reworked once more info and the patch notes are released. All information is subject to change.

Update Content

Additions

  • All characters will be given new close-range Melees, as well as Side Specials.
  • New grab mechanic, already tested in Beta 0.0.0.2 and Beta 0.0.0.3.
  • A new character: Bullet Kin.
  • 2 new stages: Canabalt Skyline, and Well Caverns.
  • New feature: Bubble Swap. This feature allows players to change characters mid-match while bubbled.
  • New multiplayer mode: Crown Pogo. Players fight for a crown that spawns onto the stage, building up points that increase over time.
  • New single-player mode: Infinite Pogo. Players will fight an endless onslaught of CPU fighters that grow stronger as the game progresses.
  • All characters' arcade paths have been changed. No other info has been given at this time.
  • Mass balance changes.
  • New trophies.
  • New alternate skins.
  • Remaining Kickstarter NPCs added.

Character-related changes

  • Blockman
    • Blockman gets an entrance animation where he sips margarita on a chair, then jump off of it, like in The Blocks Cometh's trailer.
    • Blockman can perform his grounded charge in different angles.
    • Blockman gets a new Up Special, when his block is already out, where he performs a headbutt.
    • Blockman gets a new move where he grabs his opponent and sends it in the opposite direction.
    • Blockman gets a new dashing move, punching foes in his way.
  • CommanderVideo
    • Grounded Charge | Slide Strike
      • Buff Kick range has been drastically increased.
    • Neutral Special | Eggplant Plane
      • New CommanderVideo rides the Eggplant Plane from Runner3. Its flight path can be aimed and CommanderVideo can jump off of it before it crashes on walls or opponents, dealing 5 damage. If CommanderVideo is caught in the explosion, he receives 4 damage.
    • Side Special | Flying Kick
      • Change Rework CommanderVideo's old Neutral Special has been moved to his Side Special.
    • Up Special | Beat Paddle
      • Buff CommanderVideo's momentum no longer halts when this move is used, making it less awkward to use while moving.
    • Down Special | Spring Flipkick
      • Buff Can now be cancelled by any move.
      • Nerf CommanderVideo can no longer spawn a new spring if one is already active. This prevents frequent spam.
      • Nerf Startup time increased when used above a surface.
      • Nerf Spring width now shrinks slowly.
      • Change Rework A transparent indicator briefly alerts players where it will spawn when used above ground.
    • SUPER | Void
      • Nerf Knockback has been slightly decreased.
  • Fishy
    • Fishy gets an entrance animation where they come out of a closet in which the player chooses Fishy's color in Shütshimi.
    • Fishy will get a mobility nerf, noticeably their roll being slower due to them being a Megaton fighter.
    • Fishy will be able to use the Machine Gun from Shütshimi.
  • Jack
    • Midair Jump
      • Nerf Midair Jump height reduced.
    • Grounded Charge | Chainsaw Lunge
      • New Jack whips out a chainsaw and leaps upwards. The chainsaw can hit enemies multiple times on its way up, as well as on its way down. Deals 1 damage per hit.
    • Neutral Special | Laser Scanner
      • New Jack fires a bright laser that locks onto terrain and travels forward. The path of the laser creates a line of explosive pillars that rise up from the ground, dealing 6 damage to any opponent they come into contact with.
    • Side Special | Sickle Boomerang/Pollen Boomerang
      • Change Rework Jack’s old Neutral Special has been moved to his Side Special.
      • Change Rework Now has a cooldown once the projectile despawns. Jack can negate this cooldown by catching it in mid-air.
      • Buff Range greatly increased.
      • Buff Damage increases from 1 to 2 if Jack catches a deployed Boomerang.
      • Nerf Now travels in a straight line rather than returning to Jack. Direction cannot be angled.
    • Up Special | Double Drill
      • New Jack equips a pair of drills and shoots upward into an arc. Holding the button allows Jack to keep the drills held out. Drills deal 2 damage per hit and hit multiple times.
    • Down Special | Spikeball
      • Nerf Spikeball now has a health meter that depletes whenever it collides with players or terrain. Once it is destroyed, it cannot be redeployed for a while.
      • Nerf Spikeball no longer deals damage while retracting.
    • SUPER | Chaos Drill
      • Change Rework Drill projectiles spin outward faster.
      • Buff Now spawns two sets of eight drills.
  • Lilac
    • Up Melee
      • Change Rework Lilac's old Grounded Charge has been moved to her Up Melee.
      • Buff Can now be angled to the left.
      • Nerf Damage reduced from 6-9 to 5.
    • Side Special | Blink Dash
      • New Lilac dashes forward a short distance at light speed, dealing 4 damage on contact. With Dragon Star active, this move's distance is increased, and it deals 6 damage.
    • Up Special | Dragon Boost/Boost Breaker
      • Change Rework Damage reduced from 6 to 1, but can hit up to 5 times.
      • Buff Distance significantly increased with Dragon Star active.
      • Nerf Base travel distance shortened.
      • Nerf Boost Breaker can only be used whith Dragon Star active.
    • Grounded Charge | Dragon Star
      • New When fully charged, Lilac jumps through a Time Gate, earning a Dragon Star that orbits her. While active, Dragon Star will power up Lilac's Side Melee, Up Special and Side Special. Disappears if the latter two are used.
    • SUPER | Holodragon
      • Buff The laser now shifts up and down.
      • Nerf The laser lasts one second shorter.
  • Orcane
    • Orcane gets an entrance animation where he spawns on a revive platform similar to Rivals of Aether's
    • Orcane's Down Aerial now relies on an ammo system to spit bubbles. Not using the move regenerates the ammos in large quantity.
    • Orcane gets a new warping move as his Side Special.
  • Penelope
    • Neutral Special | Vampire Mines
      • Buff Penelope can now drift in all directions, or choose not to drift.
      • Buff Healing increased from 2 to 3.
      • Buff Damage now scales from 4 to 6 depending on mine size.
      • Nerf Deploying a mine now deals 1 damage to Penelope.
    • Side Special | Smashboost Engine
      • New Just like her ship's Smashboost ability in The Next Penelope, Penelope boosts forward at high speed. This move doesn't do damage but is useful for covering long distances as well as extending combos.

  • Stardrop
    • Stardrop is getting a new entrance animation.
    • Stardrop can now guide his Starshot projectile to fly towards him.
  • Teslakid
    • Grounded Charge | Ball Lightning
      • Nerf Damage and size now scale from 1 to 5 depending on charge time.
      • Nerf Projectile size and damage shrink slowly over time.
    • Neutral Special | Polarity Cloak
      • Buff Pressing down as Teslakid lands in this state now allows for a seamless transition into Grounded Charge.
      • Nerf Pull rate at outer reaches of attack range lowered.
      • Nerf Distance required to put magnetized victims into tumble state now scales according to victim’s HP.
      • Nerf Teslakid can no longer pull in players that are in the middle of an attack animation.
      • Nerf No longer contributes to Pogo combos.
    • Side/Up Special | Blink Boots
      • New Tesla’s new Side Special is a horizontally oriented version of the Blink Boots ability. Punch speed and range reduced if angled in the opposite direction Teslakid teleported from.
      • Nerf Damage reduced from 10 to 6.
      • Nerf Stun hitbox no longer contributes to Pogo combos.
  • Velocispider
    • Up Melee
      • Change Rework Velocispider's old Neutral Special has been moved to the Up Melee attack.
      • Nerf This move can no longer be charged.
      • Nerf Hitbox sized reduced to more accurately match the spritework.
    • Grounded Charge | Charge Shot
      • Change Rework Neutral Special, Side Special and Grounded Charge all come together as this one move.
      • Buff Velocispider can rotate to fire more horizontally.
      • Buff Projectile speed increased.
      • Buff Ground speed increased.
    • Down Special | Jet Cannon
      • Nerf The opponent can now mash out of this command grab.
    • SUPER | Omega Laser
      • Buff Deals more hitstun, allowing for more combo potential.
      • Nerf Now has a short startup time upon activation.
      • Nerf Damage reduced from 8 to 3.
  • Viridian
    • Midair Jump
      • Nerf Viridian can now SD if they cross the top blast zone during their Midair Jump.
      • Nerf Viridian no longer gains Midair Jump after touching the underside of a platform.
    • Parkour
      • Buff Viridian can now use Parkour on ceilings and underneath platforms.
    • Up Melee
      • Change Rework Viridian’s old Up Special has been moved to their Up Melee.
      • Buff Can now be used multiple times in midair.
      • Nerf Damage reduced from 7 to 4.
    • Neutral/Side Special | Orbit
      • Change Rework Viridian’s Side Special is the same as his Neutral Special. If one is used after the other in the same jump, it will have a shorter duration and deal double the damage.
    • Up Special | Warp
      • New Viridian spawns a Warp portal and teleports through it. Other players can be launched through it upon contact.
    • Down Special | VVV
      • Buff Each V is separated into its own hitbox and deals 2 damage.
      • Nerf V projectiles no longer travel through platforms.
  • Welltaro
    • Welltaro can now use Triple with his Neutral Special.
    • Welltaro's Side Special shoots his Shotgun sideways.
    • Welltaro gets a brand new SUPER where he can choose up to three upgrades, like in his original game.
  • Zorbié
    • Neutral Special | Corkscrew Flurry
      • Buff Can now be dodge cancelled.
    • Side Special | Fart Knocker
      • New Zorbié dons his trusty helmet and blast forward headfirst into foes, dealing 6 damage. The gas he leaves behing slowly deals 1 damage, but cannot kill, which makes it a good tool for stage control. The helmet protects Zorbié from one hit of damage, but takes a while to respawn after it is used.
    • Up Special | Mustache Flap
      • Nerf Damage reduced from 8 to 7.
    • Down Special | Shoe Stomp
      • Buff This attack can now be dodge-cancelled, making it generally safer to use.
      • Buff Zorbié can now transition into Parkour after landing with this move.
    • SUPER | Mega Axe
      • Buff The range of this attack has been improved.
